Made as a part of Legacies, aiming to completely reimagine modded Minecraft while upholding these same unique, vanilla-style design principles. If you like Legacies and Legends, I highly recommend you check it out!
My design process, as an example, wasn't to show you what's on the other side of the Ancient City portal, or what else is out there in the End, or even to explain the past - it's to make you wonder what could be, such as vanilla's open-ended lore, only expanded.
Legacies and Legends is, finally, a soundtrack expansion, the first of its kind in this sense. It also adds new items, structures and lore - and ultimately will enrich your playthroughs or even modpacks without changing the core experience.
The entirety of Legacies and Legends is configurable via in-game GUI or json5.
Atmospheric Soundtrack Overhaul
Legacies and Legends introduces several new tracks to the game, all thematic to their locations and carefully selected to ensure they blend perfectly with vanilla.
For a standalone, vanilla-friendly resource pack, check out Music and Melody
Several new songs (including some left-out ones from the official soundtracks) are added to the game's base soundtrack for various biomes, as well as a bonus track for when you light the end portal. These tracks are considerately weighted to ensure vanilla and C418 music still get their chances to shine. Special thanks to Firel for composing Only the Beginning as a new end track for this mod!

-
much, much more - it's best you play Legacies and Legends for yourself in order to truly experience the breadth of improvements made
Most structures have seen their loot tables reworked or rebalanced in a vanilla-like fashion - for example, End Cities are mostly untouched, but a Jungle Temple has a few additional items in addition to the chests containing more overall items on average than vanilla. In other cases, you may find entirely new items to the loot tables, such as the enchanted stone tools that can be found rarely in underwater ruins. Regardless the structure, there's a good chance it's seen some changes, anywhere from a slight tweak to a complete overhaul.
I haven't just used existing loot in these updated loot tables, however. I've taken some inspiration from Minecraft's early days - filled with random new features and items that often had no reason to exist, but did anyway. There are a few other small items that provide an enriched loot experience.
-
Trident Shards | dropped from Elder Guardians, used to craft or repair Tridents
-
Metal Chunks | found from fishing and world loot, used to repair certain items or smelted into iron nuggets
-
Wooden Buckets | found from fishing and world loot, crafted into Coal or Charcoal buckets to make a great fuel source
-
Hooks | found from fishing and world loot, a slow but heavy-hitting melee weapon with the exclusive Shatter enchantment
-
Knives | found from Trail Ruins archaeology, Knives deal low damage but strike fast. They have Striking as an exclusive enchantment
-
Boomerangs | arguably the most unique new weapon, with 4 exclusive enchantments. Found in Dungeons, Boomerangs travel far and spin fast - the longer they fly, the more damage they do. Whilst you'll have to find most of their enchantments in the world, they can get Rebound from the enchanting table, and also work with Flame, Freeze, Decay, Rejuvenate and Featherweight
Music Discs
-
Svall (Mineshafts)
-
Taswell (Deep Ruins)
-
Tundra (Igloos)
-
Infinite Spooky Amethyst (Pale Cabins)
-
Shulker (End Cities)
-
Far Lands (crafted from disc fragments scattered throughout select overworld structures)
-
Castles (found in the overhauled Dungeons - specifically the standard simple / cobblestone variant)
Pottery Sherds
-
Dusk and Harvest - found from Obelisks
-
Forager and Verdant - found from Ruins
Enchantments
-
Featherweight - Boomerangs fly further, faster and ramp up damage quicker. Found in Arid Dungeons, exclusive to Boomerangs
-
Decay - Boomerangs poison targets when thrown. Found in Deep Dungeons (or Verdant Dungeons when Variants & Ventures is installed), incompatible with Rejuvenate
-
Rejuvenate - Boomerangs give regeneration to targets when thrown. Found in Simple Dungeons, exclusive to Crossbows and Boomerangs, incompatible with Decay
-
Extraction - grants more experience from mined blocks. Exclusive to Helmets, incompatible with Aqua Affinity
-
Freeze - ranged attacks afflict targets with freeze for a short time. Found in Frozen Dungeons, incompatible with Flame
-
Striking - increases hit speed and damage against certain passive or neutral mobs, specifically animals with some sort of hide-like skin. Exclusive to Knives, incompatible with other damage enchantments
-
Shatter - hits apply Freezing for a short duration. Hitting frozen enemies causes them to shatter, dealing bonus damage. Exclusive to Hooks, incompatible with other damage enchantments
-
Tangled - allows you to traverse blocks and similar items which would otherwise slow you down at a faster speed. Found in Jungle Temples, Leggings exclusive, incompatible with Swift Sneak
Structures
Legacies and Legends includes quite a few new structures, all small and carefully balanced to keep them nice, rare and unobtrusive - perfect for vanilla integration... and expanding on the lore.
While there are quite a few new structures, spawning has been-fine tuned to ensure the structure-clutter problems faced by other structure projects are avoided.
You can view the gallery for examples
Dungeon Overhaul - a comprehensive expansion on the vanilla Dungeon structure, filled with new rooms, loot, variants and more. The go-to structure to get Boomerangs and their exclusive enchantments. Ruins - archaeological site with variant types, found in Taigas and Jungles
Forest Ruins - 2 variant types for each biome they can spawn in, which are Birch Forests, Cherry Groves and Maple Forests (the latter requires Wilder Wild)
Obelisks - archaeological sites found in Dark Forests (Obelisk) or Pale Gardens (Shattered Obelisk)
Swamp Hut Variants - 3 new Swamp Hut variants, including a modified vanilla one
Deep Ruins - found at y -52, 2 variant types

End Ruins - surface structure found in the outer End, 3 variant types
Artifacts

Tablet of Recall | After a long use duration, you are teleported to your spawn point. Does not work between dimensions. Found from Dungeons, Strongholds, Forest Ruins, Deep Ruins, Abandoned Mineshafts, Ruined Portals and End Cities. May also be traded by Wandering Traders, if Villager Config is installed
Tablet of Revealing | After a short use duration, all nearby entities are revealed through the Glowing effect. Found in Mineshafts and traded by Wandering Traders, if Villager Config is installed

Lore Expansion
Finally, the piece that brings it all together. Lore. The lore expansion is closely linked with many new structures, items and even music, but there's an added component - many structures now have a very low chance to contain a lore book, a written book with a short excerpt of lore embedded. There are quite a few, and are designed to complement the very minimalistic and open-ended lore and story of the base game in similar ways.
There are a total of 22 unique written lore books to discover.
They've all been carefully written, and are fully vanilla-compliant and not immersion breaking (they are quite open-ended and aren't throwing made-up lore at you) whatsoever, even if you dislike the idea of them. Trust me, find one and you'll get what I mean.
For obvious reasons, I can't say more about this, but I hope you have a blast uncovering all the new lore over your playthroughs.
Misc Additions
Echo Shards can now be used as a Trim Material
Improved Wandering Trader trades when used with VillagerConfig
Config
Legacies and Legends uses Cloth Config and Mod Menu for its config. Details on what certain config options do are provided in the in-game Mod Menu GUI via the tooltip shown when you hover over an option, so that is the intended way to view the configuration options. The default json5 config generated by the mod is also provided below for reference.
